Barry Featherman is International Affairs Manager of DMGS.

Experience

Mr. Featherman was appointed by former Peruvian President Alejandro Toledo to serve as the Executive Director of the Global Center for Development and Democracy.  Mr. Featherman has collaborated with major regional multilateral organizations and governments in Latin America for nearly two decades, and served as the Director of the Transition Team for the Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States.

With his extensive experience in Latin America, Mr. Featherman has worked with heads of state and government and business and humanitarian leaders on fashioning programs to provide civil society with direct input during multilateral meetings-in order to build sustainable societies, promote social inclusion and empower people.

Mr. Featherman has organized major international conferences in Barbados, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Jamaica and the United States.  He concluded cooperative agreements with the Organization of American States, the Caribbean Development Bank, and the Andean Parliament.  He assisted in the organization of Muhammad Yunus’ historic Ecuador visit to Cuenca, Quito and Guayaquil.

As a member of the International Advisory Board of the Global Center for Development and Democracy, Mr. Featherman participated in meetings in Brazil, Ecuador, Peru and the United Kingdom.  He worked in Paris  as part of the campaign team of Ecuador's candidate for Director General of UNESCO.

Mr. Featherman helped administer the international leadership program for the United Nations University (UNU) in Amman, Jordan.  In 1997, an international committee chaired by Her Majesty Queen Noor selected him to be part of the inaugural program of the International Leadership Academy.  Mr. Featherman traveled with UNU delegations for meetings with His Majesty King Hussein, Her Majesty Queen Noor, Egyptian Foreign Minister Amir Moussa and many other international leaders.  In addition, he co-led UNU delegations to Cyprus for meetings with Cypriot President Glafcos Clerides and Turkish Cypriot representatives. Mr. Featherman also co-led a UNU delegation to Turkey and moderated discussions in Amman with Dr. Boutros Boutros Ghali, Oscar Arias, Shimon Peres and many other present and former world leaders.

Mr. Featherman served on the Obama National Leadership Council and has extensive contacts and experience in Washington, DC, as well as Latin America.  He is a member of the National Advisory Committee of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Trade Advisory Board of FOCAL (the Canadian Foundation on the Americas).

Education

Mr. Featherman graduated Phi Beta Kappa, magna cum laude, with a degree in Political Science from Temple University, and received his J.D. from American University Washington College of Law.  He also holds a master’s degree in Inter-American Law from the University of Miami (thesis published in the 1991 issue of the Yearbook of International Law).  Mr. Featherman is a member of the Florida, District of Columbia and Pennsylvania bars.  He is fluent in Spanish and is active with numerous civic, volunteer and charitable organizations.
